Erectile dysfunction, erection problems and the ageing process
Erectile dysfunction, low libido, impotence and erection problems - an inevitable part of ageing?
As a man, it’s inevitable that you will experience changes in your sexual performance and appetite as you age. You reach your peak virility in your late teens, but on entering your 30s, 40s and 50s, a gradual decrease in sexual response occurs. This often leads to erectile dysfunction meaning it will take you longer to achieve and maintain a full erection with more direct and prolonged stimulation necessary - that's if you can get an erection at all!
As you get older:
- Your semen volume decreases and you produce fewer sperm
- Erections take longer to occur and may not be as hard
- Ejaculations and orgasms become less intense
- Your ‘recovery time’ (the time between erections) increases to as much as 12 to 24 hours
Worst of all, you may simply lose interest in sex – the dreaded 'low libido' – which no one wants to experience but is unfortunately a common occurrence.
Remember the virility of your youth?
Can you can remember being easily aroused in your teens and early 20s? Back then, long lasting erections so hard you felt fit to burst were commonplace, whilst thoughts of ‘erectile dysfunction’ were never a consideration. And do you remember a time when both you and your partner enjoyed hugely satisfying orgasms? Why is it that the immensely satisfying and fulfilling pleasures of an active sex life are denied you in later life? The simple answer lies in your body’s production of a key hormone you are sure to have heard of - testosterone.
